About Seroflo Inhaler 125 mcg

Seroflo Inhaler 125, made by Cipla, is the mid-strength version of this popular asthma combination inhaler. Each puff provides salmeterol 25 mcg and fluticasone propionate 125 mcg. It is commonly prescribed when a steroid inhaler on its own no longer keeps asthma under control, or as a step down from the stronger 250 inhaler once symptoms have settled.

What each ingredient does

Fluticasone propionate 125 mcgInhaled steroid that calms airway inflammation over days to weeks
Salmeterol 25 mcgLong-acting bronchodilator that keeps airways open for about 12 hours

Directions for use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over usually take two puffs in the morning and two in the evening, every day. Shake well, breathe out away from the mouthpiece, then press the canister as you start to breathe in slowly. Hold your breath for up to ten seconds. Using the inhaler with a spacer helps more medicine reach the lungs. Rinse your mouth afterwards.

Keep using it even when you feel well; the benefit depends on regular use. For quick relief during symptoms, you still need a separate reliever inhaler.

Pack sizes

One inhaler holds 120 doses. Available as 1, 2 or 3 inhalers, from $12.50.

Possible side effects

  • Oral thrush, sore throat or a husky voice (reduced by rinsing your mouth).
  • Headache, muscle cramps, tremor or palpitations.
  • Rarely, sudden wheeze straight after use. Use your reliever and get medical advice.

Things to tell your doctor

Mention heart conditions, high blood pressure, diabetes, an overactive thyroid, or a history of tuberculosis. Some HIV and antifungal medicines raise fluticasone levels, and beta-blockers can reduce salmeterol’s effect.

Day-to-day tips

Keep the inhaler somewhere you will see it morning and evening, such as next to your toothbrush, so that doses become a habit. Note the start date on the canister: at two puffs twice daily, 120 puffs last about a month. Bring the inhaler to asthma reviews so your nurse can check your technique.

Warning signs of poor control

If you need your reliever more than two or three times a week, wake at night with symptoms, or your peak flow is falling, your asthma needs reviewing. Call emergency services if your reliever does not help or you are too breathless to speak.

Storage

Keep below 86°F (30°C), away from frost and heat. Do not puncture the canister.
