About Asthalin 4 mg Tablets
Asthalin 4 mg is a prescription oral tablet containing 4 mg of albuterol (salbutamol), made by Cipla Limited, used to ease wheezing and breathlessness caused by narrowed airways in asthma, chronic bronchitis and other forms of COPD. At twice the strength of the 2 mg tablet, it is designed for adults and adolescents over 12 who need a standard oral dose in a single tablet.

How does Asthalin 4 mg work?
Once absorbed, albuterol reaches the lungs through the blood and activates beta-2 receptors in the airway walls. The muscle bands around the bronchi loosen, air moves in and out more easily, and chest tightness eases. The effect builds steadily rather than instantly, so the tablet is taken on a regular timetable, not as a rescue treatment.
How to take Asthalin 4 mg
The usual starting dose for adults and children over 12 is 2 mg or 4 mg three or four times a day. If symptoms are not controlled, a doctor may raise it step by step, but never beyond 8 mg four times a day. Swallow the tablet whole with a drink of water, and spread doses across the day, for example morning, midafternoon and bedtime. If you miss one, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due; never take two at once. Older people and those prone to palpitations often begin on Asthalin 2 mg instead.
Why doctors usually prefer inhaled albuterol
A single 4 mg tablet holds 40 times the albuterol in one 100 mcg puff, yet an inhaler places the medicine straight onto the airways, works within minutes and causes less shakiness. Tablets are kept for people who cannot use any inhaled device. Whichever form you use, persistent asthma usually also needs a daily inhaled corticosteroid such as the Budecort Inhaler (budesonide) to control the underlying inflammation.
What are the side effects?
- Common: trembling hands, palpitations, feeling jittery or anxious, headache and muscle cramps.
- Less common: sleep problems, flushing, nausea and restlessness.
- Metabolic: lower potassium and higher blood glucose, mainly at higher doses; people with diabetes may need extra glucose checks.
Seek emergency care for chest pain, a heartbeat that is very fast or irregular, severe dizziness or collapse, an allergic reaction with swelling or hives, or wheezing that worsens after a dose.
Who should not take Asthalin 4 mg?
Avoid it if you have had an allergic reaction to albuterol. Your prescriber needs to know about heart rhythm problems, angina, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, diabetes or seizures. This strength is not normally used for children under 12. Oral albuterol is not an appropriate treatment for premature labor. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, a doctor will usually favor an inhaled form.
Medicines that interact
Tell your doctor about beta-blockers (tablets or eye drops), diuretics, corticosteroids, theophylline or doxofylline, digoxin, MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, and cold remedies containing decongestants. Some raise the risk of low potassium or heart rhythm problems, while beta-blockers can cancel the bronchodilator effect.
