About Maxiflo Inhaler 250 mcg
Maxiflo Inhaler 250 is a Cipla metered-dose inhaler combining formoterol 6 mcg with fluticasone propionate 250 mcg in each puff. It is an asthma preventer for people who need both regular anti-inflammatory treatment and a long-acting bronchodilator. Formoterol begins to open the airways within a few minutes and lasts about 12 hours.
Who it is for
Maxiflo 250 is generally used by adults whose asthma is not controlled on a lower-dose inhaled steroid, or who need a higher steroid dose to stay well. A lower strength, Maxiflo Inhaler 100 mcg, is available for milder disease, and a dry-powder version, Maxiflo Rotacaps 250 mcg, suits people who prefer capsules with a Rotahaler.
Dosage and technique
Doctors usually prescribe one or two puffs twice a day. Shake the canister before each puff, breathe out, then press the inhaler at the start of a slow, deep breath and hold your breath for up to ten seconds. Wait about 30 seconds between puffs. A spacer device makes it easier to inhale the full dose. Rinse your mouth after every use to protect against thrush.
Take it every day even if you feel well. It is not intended for rescue use unless your doctor has specifically told you so; carry a separate reliever.

Side effects
- Common: headache, shaky hands, palpitations, hoarseness and throat irritation.
- Oral thrush: white patches in the mouth, which are treatable and preventable by rinsing.
- Rare but serious: sudden wheeze after inhaling, allergic swelling, or a very fast heartbeat. Seek help straight away.
Cautions
Discuss heart disease, abnormal heart rhythm, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disease and low potassium with your doctor. Long-term high-dose inhaled steroids may affect bones, eyes and, in children, growth, so the lowest effective dose is always the aim.
Day-to-day tips
Test-spray a new inhaler, or one unused for a week, into the air before first use. Wipe the mouthpiece weekly with a dry cloth. If you use a spacer, wash it monthly in warm soapy water and let it air-dry to reduce static that traps the medicine.
Storage
Store below 86°F (30°C) and away from direct heat. The canister is pressurized; do not pierce or incinerate it.
