About Wysolone 20 mg
Wysolone 20 mg is a prescription dispersible tablet containing 20 mg of prednisolone, made by Wyeth (Pfizer) in India, used for acute flares of asthma, severe allergic conditions and other inflammatory diseases that need a higher corticosteroid dose. It is the strongest Wysolone tablet we stock; two tablets make up the 40 mg dose often used for adult asthma attacks.
How does Wysolone 20 mg work?
Prednisolone blocks inflammation at its source. By changing gene activity in immune and lining cells, it reduces the chemical signals that cause swelling, draws fewer white blood cells to the affected area and makes airways less twitchy. That is why a short course can turn around a flare that inhalers or creams alone could not control.
How long does it take to work?
- Asthma: airway inflammation starts to ease within about 4–6 hours, with clearer improvement over one to two days.
- Allergic rashes and swelling: these usually settle over a few days.
- Joint and muscle inflammation: stiffness can lessen within a day or two.
Keep taking the full course even when you feel better.
How to take Wysolone 20 mg
Take the day’s dose in one go each morning, after a meal. Disperse the tablet in a little water and drink it at once, or swallow it whole. For an adult asthma attack, a doctor might prescribe two tablets (40 mg) daily for five days or more. Courses longer than three weeks, or repeated courses, need to be tapered on medical advice.
Medicines that interact
| Medicine | Possible effect |

| Warfarin | Changes in blood clotting; extra INR checks |
| Insulin and other diabetes medicines | Glucose rises; dose may need adjusting |
| Diuretics, high-dose albuterol (salbutamol) | Low potassium |
| Rifampin (rifampicin), carbamazepine, phenytoin | Weaker steroid effect |
| Ketoconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir | Stronger steroid effect |
| Ciprofloxacin and other fluoroquinolones | Tendon damage |
| Live vaccines | Avoid at immunosuppressive doses |
What are the side effects?
At this strength, a short course commonly causes a hearty appetite, sleeplessness, jitteriness, indigestion and temporarily raised blood sugar. Longer use increases the risk of weight gain, thinning bones, cataracts, glaucoma, high blood pressure and infections. Call a doctor urgently for signs of infection, black or bloody stools, severe stomach pain, confusion or hallucinations, or blurred vision.
Who should not take it?
Prednisolone is not suitable with a systemic fungal infection or a prior allergic reaction to it. Discuss diabetes, hypertension, ulcers, tuberculosis, glaucoma, epilepsy, osteoporosis and mental health history with your doctor first. Anyone not immune to chickenpox or measles should seek advice fast after exposure. It is not an emergency treatment for anaphylaxis, which needs epinephrine (adrenaline). Pregnant or breastfeeding women can take it when a doctor decides the benefits outweigh the risks.
