About Tazret Gel
Tazret Gel from Glenmark contains tazarotene, a third-generation topical retinoid. It is prescribed for two quite different skin conditions: acne and mild to moderate plaque psoriasis. For psoriasis it helps normalize the overgrowth of skin cells that builds thick, scaly patches, and for acne it unclogs pores and reduces inflammation.
How to apply it
For acne: once each evening, apply a thin layer to the affected areas of clean, dry skin.
For psoriasis: apply a thin film only to the plaques once a day in the evening, avoiding unaffected skin around them. A little emollient around the edges of plaques can protect healthy skin from irritation. It is usually used on up to 10% of the body surface.
- Wash your hands after applying, unless your hands are being treated.
- Avoid eyes, mouth and skin folds.
- Use daily sunscreen and avoid sunbathing or sunbeds.
Important: pregnancy warning
Tazarotene can harm an unborn baby. It must not be used during pregnancy. Anyone who could become pregnant should have a negative pregnancy test before starting and use effective contraception throughout treatment. Stop and contact a doctor straight away if pregnancy occurs. It is also not recommended while breastfeeding.
Pack sizes
Supplied in 15 g tubes, in packs of 1, 3 or 6, from $6. A stronger cream, Tazret Forte Cream, is also available.
Side effects
Itching, burning, stinging, redness, peeling and dry skin are common, especially in the first weeks. Psoriasis plaques may look redder as they flatten, which is expected. Stop and seek advice if irritation is severe or blistering occurs.
Cautions
Do not apply to eczema, sunburnt or broken skin. Avoid using other irritating products, such as strong exfoliants, on treated areas. People who burn easily or take medicines that increase sun sensitivity need extra care in sunlight.
Making it more comfortable
If stinging is a problem, apply a moisturizer first and wait a few minutes, or use the gel every other night at first. For psoriasis, doctors sometimes combine tazarotene with a topical steroid in the morning to reduce irritation and boost results; only do this if prescribed.
Storage
Store below 77°F (25°C) with the cap tightly closed.
