About CB-Lin 0.5 mg

CB-Lin 0.5 mg is a prescription tablet containing 0.5 mg of cabergoline, made by Serum Institute India, used to reduce abnormally high prolactin levels caused by pituitary adenomas or of unknown origin. Each strip holds only 2 tablets, which fits a once- or twice-weekly regimen: one strip covers one to two weeks of treatment.

How does CB-Lin work?

The drug imitates dopamine, the brain chemical that tells the pituitary to hold back prolactin. Binding firmly to D2 receptors, cabergoline keeps prolactin down for several days after each tablet. As levels fall, the reproductive hormone axis restarts, and a prolactin-producing adenoma usually becomes smaller.

Who is it for?

CB-Lin is for adults diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia after blood tests and, where needed, a pituitary MRI. It is not a lifestyle medicine. Cabergoline is sometimes misused to blunt side effects of anabolic steroids or to shorten recovery time after sex; taking it without medical supervision exposes you to heart valve, mental health and blood pressure risks.

How to take CB-Lin 0.5 mg

  1. Choose fixed dosing days, three or four days apart if you take it twice a week (for example, Tuesday and Friday).
  2. Take the tablet with a meal or snack and a glass of water.
  3. For the first few doses, take it in the evening and rise slowly from sitting or lying.
  4. Keep the next dose in the strip until it is due, and record each dose in a diary or app.
  5. Attend the prolactin test your doctor books about 4 weeks after any change, since doses are not increased faster than this.

Typical treatment totals 0.5 to 1 mg a week. US labeling starts at 0.25 mg twice weekly and allows a maximum of 1 mg twice weekly. If you need 0.25 mg doses, your doctor may prescribe Caberlin 0.25 mg or Cabgolin 0.25 mg.

Important warnings

  • Heart valves and fibrosis: have an echocardiogram before starting and at intervals during long-term use; report breathlessness, cough, chest pain, leg swelling or loin pain.
  • Impulse control: compulsive gambling, shopping, eating or sexual behavior can emerge, and usually improves after the dose is lowered or stopped.
  • Low blood pressure and sleepiness: avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel faint or drowsy.
  • Mental health: report confusion, hallucinations or low mood.

Who should not take it?

Do not use CB-Lin if you are hypersensitive to cabergoline or any ergot alkaloid, or if you have uncontrolled hypertension, a history of valvular heart disease, or pulmonary, pericardial or retroperitoneal fibrosis. Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, a stomach ulcer or a psychiatric condition. Report a pregnancy promptly, and do not take it while breastfeeding.

What are the side effects?

The most frequent are nausea, headache, dizziness, tiredness, constipation and abdominal pain; many ease after the first few weeks. Contact emergency services for fainting, chest pain, severe shortness of breath or signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of the face and throat.

Interactions

Do not combine it with antipsychotics, metoclopramide or other ergot medicines without your doctor’s advice. Macrolide antibiotics and blood pressure tablets can increase side effects.

Pack sizes and storage

CB-Lin 0.5 mg is sold in packs of 12, 24 or 36 tablets, from $45. Store below 77°F (25°C) in the original strip; when traveling, keep it in your carry-on bag with a copy of your prescription.
