About Clindac A Solution
Clindac A Solution is a prescription topical liquid containing clindamycin 1% (as clindamycin phosphate), listed as made by Alkem Laboratories Ltd, used to treat inflammatory acne vulgaris on the face, chest, shoulders and back. It comes in a 25 mL bottle and offers a liquid alternative to the gel for people who prefer a lighter feel or need to cover larger or hair-bearing areas. Our gel listing names Galderma India as the maker, so rely on the manufacturer and strength printed on your bottle.
How does Clindac A Solution work?
Clindamycin slows the growth of Cutibacterium acnes, a bacterium that lives in oily hair follicles and drives the inflammation of acne. With fewer bacteria, follicles release fewer irritating by-products, so swollen red spots and pustules gradually calm down. A liquid spreads quickly over a broad area and dries fast, leaving little residue.
Solution, gel or lotion: which suits you?
| Form | Feel | Often chosen for |
|---|---|---|
| Solution | Thin, quick-drying, may sting | Oily skin, back, chest, beard or hairline areas |
| Gel | Light, slightly tacky until dry | Normal to oily facial skin |
| Lotion or cream | Softer and more moisturizing | Dry or sensitive skin |
All of these deliver the same antibiotic, so the choice mostly comes down to comfort. Compare Clindac A Gel 15 gm if the liquid feels too drying.
How to use Clindac A Solution
- Wash the area and let it dry thoroughly.
- Apply a thin film twice a day, using the applicator tip if the bottle has one, or a few drops on clean fingertips or a cotton pad.
- Dab or glide it over the whole affected region without soaking the skin.
- Keep it well away from the eyes, nose and mouth, and rinse with cool water if it gets into the eyes.
- Let it dry fully before dressing or applying makeup. Clindamycin solutions are commonly alcohol-based, so also keep away from flames and heat until dry.
Combining it with other treatments
Clindamycin works best, and resistance is less likely, when it is part of a combination plan with benzoyl peroxide, often as a wash such as Brevoxyl Creamy Wash. For widespread back or chest acne that does not respond, a doctor may switch to a limited course of an oral antibiotic such as Doxycycline 100 mg; using an oral and a topical antibiotic together is generally avoided.
What are the side effects?
Stinging or burning on application is more likely with a liquid, particularly on broken or freshly shaved skin. Dryness, peeling, redness and itching are also common. Rarely, enough clindamycin is absorbed to upset the bowel: contact a doctor right away for frequent watery diarrhea, bloody stools or severe abdominal pain, and do not take an anti-diarrhea medicine without advice. Stop using it if a rash, hives or swelling develops.
Who should not use it?
Do not use Clindac A Solution if you are allergic to clindamycin or lincomycin, or if you have had regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis or antibiotic-associated colitis. Avoid topical erythromycin at the same time. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding; absorption is low, but the choice should be made with them. Children under 12 should use it only if a doctor prescribes it.
