About Erytop Gel

Erytop Gel is a prescription topical gel listed as containing clindamycin, usually at 1%, made by USV Pvt Ltd, used to treat mild to moderate acne with inflamed red spots and pustules. Although “Ery” often signals erythromycin in brand names, this product is listed with clindamycin as its active ingredient, so read the composition on the tube before use, especially if you already use other acne medicines. Each tube contains 20 g.

How does Erytop Gel work?

Clindamycin belongs to the lincosamide antibiotics. Applied to the skin, it penetrates the oil glands and follicles, where it halts protein synthesis in Cutibacterium acnes and dampens the inflammatory reaction those bacteria trigger. Over several weeks this reduces the number and size of inflamed lesions. It does not unblock pores or reduce oil production by itself.

Clindamycin or erythromycin: why it matters

Both antibiotics are used on acne-prone skin, and both act at the same site on bacterial ribosomes. For that reason they should not be applied together: they can interfere with each other, and using one encourages resistance to the other. Resistance to topical erythromycin is now widespread, one reason clindamycin is chosen more often. If a doctor has already prescribed an erythromycin product, ask whether Erytop should replace it rather than be added.

How to use Erytop Gel

  • After gentle cleansing, apply a thin layer to the affected areas twice a day, morning and night.
  • Make sure the skin is completely dry first.
  • Cover the whole region prone to spots, since new lesions form in skin that looks clear today.
  • Avoid the eyes, the inside of the nose, the mouth and any open wounds.
  • Do not apply it more often than prescribed; extra layers add irritation, not speed.

To lower the risk of resistance, most dermatologists add benzoyl peroxide, and a fixed combination such as Clindoxyl Gel does this in one step.

How long should I use it?

Give it at least 6 to 8 weeks before judging the result, and expect the full effect around 12 weeks. Courses of topical antibiotics are usually limited to about three months, after which a non-antibiotic maintenance treatment, often a retinoid such as A Ret Gel 0.025% (tretinoin), helps keep acne from returning. Persistent nodules, cysts or scarring call for a dermatologist’s review; isotretinoin, one option for severe acne, requires close specialist supervision and strict pregnancy prevention.

What are the side effects?

Mild dryness, scaling, redness, burning and itching at the application site are the most frequent complaints, and some people notice increased oiliness. Very rarely, absorbed clindamycin has caused colitis; if you develop severe, persistent or bloody diarrhea or abdominal cramps, stop the gel and contact a doctor straight away. Seek urgent help for signs of allergy such as swelling of the lips or face, or a widespread rash.

Who should not use Erytop Gel?

Avoid it with a known allergy to clindamycin or lincomycin, or a past history of ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease or antibiotic-associated colitis. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding; topical use results in low blood levels, but individual advice matters. It is not recommended for children under 12 without medical advice.

Pack sizes and storage

Erytop Gel is available as 1, 3 or 6 tubes, from $5. Store below 77°F (25°C) with the cap firmly closed; do not refrigerate or freeze.

Frequently asked questions

Is Erytop the same as Acnesol Gel 1%?

Both contain clindamycin; Acnesol Gel 1% is the Systopic version, and the gel bases and inactive ingredients can differ.

Can I use it during the day under sunscreen?

Yes. Clindamycin does not cause sun sensitivity, and daily sunscreen helps red marks fade.
