About Evadiol 2 mg

Evadiol 2 mg is a prescription tablet containing 2 mg of estradiol valerate, made by Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd, used to replace estrogen in women with menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal dryness. It contains the same hormone and dose as Progynova 2 mg, packed in strips of 28 tablets so that one strip covers a typical four-week treatment cycle.

How does Evadiol work?

Once swallowed, estradiol valerate is converted to estradiol, identical to the hormone produced by the ovaries during the reproductive years. Estradiol binds estrogen receptors in the brain, vagina, urinary tract, bones and skin. Restoring it eases vasomotor symptoms, improves comfort during sex and reduces the rate of bone thinning, although it does not reverse every change of aging.

Who is it prescribed for?

Doctors use Evadiol for postmenopausal women, and for women with surgical or early menopause, who need a full 2 mg daily dose. Fertility clinics also prescribe estradiol valerate 2 mg tablets, often more than once a day, to build up the uterine lining before a frozen embryo transfer; in that setting, follow the clinic’s written schedule exactly. Evadiol is not a contraceptive and should not be relied on to prevent pregnancy.

How to take Evadiol 2 mg

  • Take one tablet daily with water at a time you will remember, such as breakfast or bedtime.
  • If you have a uterus: a progestin (progestogen) is essential. On a sequential plan it is taken for 12 to 14 days of each 28-day strip, producing a regular bleed; on a continuous combined plan it is taken daily.
  • After hysterectomy: estrogen alone is usually enough.
  • If you are switching from another cyclic HRT, you normally start the day after finishing your current cycle; otherwise your doctor will tell you when to begin.
  • Missed dose: take it within 24 hours, otherwise skip it. Missing tablets can bring on breakthrough bleeding.

What to expect in the first three months

Weeks 1–2: breast tenderness, mild nausea or headache may appear as your body adjusts; taking the tablet with food or at night can help. Weeks 3–6: hot flashes and night sweats usually become less frequent, and sleep often improves. Weeks 6–12: vaginal dryness improves more gradually, and irregular spotting tends to settle. Keep a simple diary of bleeding and symptoms to bring to your three-month review, when your doctor will decide whether the dose is right. Bleeding that is heavy, prolonged, or continues beyond six months needs investigation.

Safety warnings

Like all estrogen therapy, Evadiol carries boxed warnings. Unopposed estrogen raises endometrial cancer risk in women who have a uterus. Oral estrogen has been linked with stroke and venous thromboembolism, and combined estrogen-progestin therapy with a small rise in breast cancer and heart attack; probable dementia was more common in women who started after 65. Use the lowest dose that controls symptoms for the shortest appropriate time, attend breast screening, and have your blood pressure checked regularly.

Who should avoid Evadiol?

Avoid it with pregnancy, breastfeeding, unexplained vaginal bleeding, breast or endometrial cancer, previous deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, a thrombophilia, recent stroke or heart attack, or significant liver disease. Extra care is needed with migraine with aura, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, gallbladder disease, endometriosis, fibroids and epilepsy.

What are the side effects?

The most frequent are breast discomfort, bloating, nausea, headache, mood swings and breakthrough bleeding. Contact emergency services at once for sudden chest pain, breathlessness, a swollen painful leg, one-sided weakness, difficulty speaking, sudden vision loss or yellow skin.

Interactions

Seizure medicines that induce liver enzymes, rifampin, St. John’s wort and ritonavir-boosted HIV regimens can lower estradiol levels. Estrogen may lower lamotrigine levels and increase the levothyroxine dose you need, so mention every medicine and supplement you take.

Pack sizes and storage

Evadiol 2 mg is available in packs of 28, 56 or 84 tablets, from $15. Store at room temperature below 77°F (25°C), in a dry place.
