Description

Same active ingredient (ivermectin) as Stromectol®, the US brand. Iversun 6 mg is an Indian brand, made and licensed in India.

About Iversun 6 mg Tablets

Iversun 6 mg is a prescription tablet containing 6 mg of ivermectin, made by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, used to treat scabies, strongyloidiasis and filarial infections. For scabies, oral ivermectin is licensed in some countries and prescribed off-label in the US, often when creams have failed, when several people in one home need treatment, or when the rash is widespread. Iversun is an Indian brand and has not been approved by US regulators.

How does it work against scabies?

Sarcoptes scabiei, the scabies mite, lives in tiny tunnels in the skin. Once swallowed, ivermectin travels to the skin in the blood and paralyzes feeding mites by acting on chloride channels in their nerves and muscles. Eggs are less affected, so the timing of a second dose matters.

How to take Iversun 6 mg

  • The usual scabies dose is 200 micrograms per kilogram of body weight, swallowed with water on an empty stomach.
  • One 6 mg tablet matches that dose at about 66 lb (30 kg), and a 132 lb (60 kg) adult takes two.
  • Take the second dose 7 to 14 days after the first, as your prescriber directs.
  • Children under 33 lb (15 kg) should not take it; permethrin cream is the usual option for them.

A week-by-week scabies plan

  • Day 1: everyone in the home, plus any sexual partners, starts treatment on the same day, whether or not they itch.
  • Days 1–2: machine wash sheets, towels and clothes worn during the previous three days at 122°F (50°C) or hotter and dry them on high heat; bag other items for three days.
  • Days 7–14: take the second dose and vacuum sofas, car seats and mattresses.
  • Weeks 2–4: itching fades gradually; a fragrance-free moisturizer or an antihistamine can help you sleep.
  • After week 4: see your doctor if new burrows appear or the itch keeps getting worse.

What are the side effects?

Scabies itching may briefly intensify in the first days as mites die. Other possible effects are headache, dizziness, nausea, an upset stomach and tiredness. Get urgent help for confusion, marked drowsiness, poor balance, seizures, a blistering rash, facial swelling or trouble breathing.

Who should not take it?

Ivermectin tablets are avoided in pregnancy and in small children below 33 lb (15 kg), and permethrin cream is the usual choice for both groups. Breastfeeding mothers should ask their doctor first. Tell your prescriber about liver disease, immune suppression, warfarin or sedative use, and any time spent in Central or West Africa, where Loa loa infection can make ivermectin dangerous.

Pack sizes and storage

Strips of 10 tablets, in packs of 100, 150, 200, 300 or 400, from $70. Store in a cool, dry place below 86°F (30°C), out of the reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Iversun with a scabies cream?

Yes, if your doctor recommends it. Pairing tablets with permethrin is standard for crusted scabies.

Does ivermectin work against COVID-19?

No. There is no evidence from good clinical trials that it helps, so ivermectin is not recommended for COVID-19 and should never be taken for that purpose.

Are other options available?

Iversun 12 mg lowers the tablet count for heavier adults, and Ivermectol 6 mg is another 6 mg tablet. See every option in our scabies category.

For general information only. Iversun 6 mg is a prescription medicine; ask a doctor to confirm scabies and to plan treatment for your whole household.
