Description

Same active ingredient (tadalafil) as Cialis®, the US brand. Megalis 10 mg is an Indian brand, made and licensed in India.

About Megalis 10 mg

Megalis 10 mg is a prescription tablet containing 10 mg of tadalafil, made by Macleods Pharmaceuticals, used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. Ten milligrams is the usual starting dose for on-demand tadalafil, so this is the strength most men are given first. Tadalafil is the active ingredient of the US brand Cialis; Megalis itself is an Indian brand, made in India.

How does Megalis work?

When a man is aroused, nerves in the penis release nitric oxide, which raises a messenger molecule called cGMP. That messenger relaxes the smooth muscle of the penile arteries so blood can rush in and produce an erection. An enzyme called PDE5 steadily clears cGMP away. Tadalafil blocks PDE5, so the signal lasts longer and an erection is easier to reach and keep. Without arousal nothing happens: Megalis does not trigger an erection by itself and does not increase libido.

How to take Megalis 10 mg

  • Swallow one tablet with water at least 30 minutes before sexual activity; many men allow one to two hours.
  • A meal makes little difference to how tadalafil is absorbed, so it can be taken either way.
  • Never take more than one tablet within 24 hours.
  • If 10 mg feels too weak after several attempts, a doctor may raise the dose to 20 mg; if side effects bother you, 5 mg may be enough.

How long does it last?

Tadalafil has a half-life of about 17.5 hours and can support erections for up to 36 hours after one dose. That long window is the main practical difference from sildenafil, whose effect usually fades after four to five hours. Our sildenafil vs tadalafil comparison sets out the trade-offs in more detail.

Who should not take Megalis?

  • Anyone using a nitrate in any form: nitroglycerin (glyceryl trinitrate) tablets or spray, isosorbide mononitrate or dinitrate, or amyl nitrite “poppers”. Together they can cause a dangerous collapse in blood pressure.
  • Men taking riociguat for pulmonary hypertension.
  • Men told to avoid sexual activity because of heart disease, such as a recent heart attack or stroke, unstable angina or uncontrolled blood pressure.
  • Women and anyone under 18, for whom it is not intended.

Tell your doctor if you use an alpha-blocker such as tamsulosin or doxazosin, other blood pressure medicines, or drugs that raise tadalafil levels, such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin or ritonavir; with strong inhibitors of this kind the limit is 10 mg once in 72 hours. Kidney or liver problems also lower the maximum dose. Keep alcohol modest, because heavy drinking on top of tadalafil can make you dizzy when you stand.

What are the side effects?

The most frequent are headache, indigestion, flushing, a blocked nose, and back or muscle pain. The aches typically appear 12 to 24 hours after a dose and fade within two days. Get emergency help for an erection lasting more than 4 hours, chest pain during sex, sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes, or sudden hearing loss or ringing in the ears.
