Description
About Persol AC 2.5% Gel
Persol AC 2.5% Gel from Wallace Pharmaceuticals contains benzoyl peroxide, one of the most widely used acne treatments. It kills the bacteria (Cutibacterium acnes) that contribute to inflamed spots, gently peels the skin to unblock pores, and, importantly, bacteria do not become resistant to it. The 2.5% strength is often as effective as higher concentrations with less irritation, making it a good first choice.
What it is used for
- Mild to moderate acne with red spots and pustules
- Preventing antibiotic resistance when used alongside topical or oral acne antibiotics
- Maintenance to keep skin clear after a course of other treatment
How to use it
- Wash the affected area with a mild cleanser and pat dry.
- Apply a thin layer to the whole area prone to spots, not just individual pimples, once a day to begin with.
- If your skin tolerates it after a week or two, you can increase to twice daily.
- Wash your hands afterwards.
Watch out: benzoyl peroxide bleaches hair, towels, pillowcases and clothing. Use white bedding or let the gel dry fully before your skin touches fabric.
Pack sizes
Each 30 g tube lasts several weeks. Available as 1, 3 or 6 tubes, from $6. A stronger Persol AC 5% Gel is also stocked.
Side effects
Dryness, peeling, redness and a mild burning sensation are common at first. A moisturizer helps. Stop and seek advice if you develop severe irritation, swelling or signs of an allergic reaction such as hives.
Using it with other treatments
Benzoyl peroxide works well with topical retinoids, but some tretinoin formulas break down if applied at the same time. A simple plan is benzoyl peroxide in the morning and a retinoid at night. It pairs well with clindamycin gels because it helps prevent antibiotic resistance.
Cautions
Avoid eyes, lips and broken skin. Take care in the sun, as treated skin can burn more easily. Usually considered acceptable in pregnancy under medical advice, but check with your doctor first.
Storage
Keep the tube closed, below 77°F (25°C), away from heat and flames.
