About Supatret 0.04% Gel
Supatret 0.04% Gel is a prescription topical gel containing tretinoin 0.04%, made by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, used to treat acne vulgaris. Its low-to-moderate strength sits between the common 0.025% and 0.05% preparations, making it a practical choice for nightly use by people starting a retinoid or with skin that reacts easily.
How does Supatret work?
Every acne lesion begins as a microcomedone: a tiny plug of dead cells and sebum inside a follicle. Tretinoin corrects the abnormal build-up of these cells, so plugs dissolve and new ones are less likely to form. As blocked pores clear, there is less trapped oil for bacteria to feed on and fewer red, swollen spots. The effect is preventive, so the gel needs to be used regularly over the whole affected area rather than dabbed on single spots.
How to apply Supatret 0.04% Gel
Apply once a day, in the evening, after washing with a gentle cleanser and letting the skin dry thoroughly. A pea-sized amount is enough for the whole face. Spread it in a thin layer, including areas that are clear but prone to breakouts, and keep it off the eyelids, lips and inside the nostrils. Wash your hands afterwards.
Building a routine around Supatret
- Morning: rinse or cleanse gently, apply a light non-comedogenic moisturizer, then a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30+.
- Evening: cleanse, wait until the skin is dry, apply Supatret, then moisturizer if you feel tight or flaky.
- Avoid: scrubs, cleansing brushes, alcohol toners, acid peels and waxing on treated skin.
- Make-up: water-based, non-comedogenic products are fine once the gel has absorbed.
How long does it take to work?
Expect dryness and perhaps a few extra spots in the first weeks. Fewer blackheads and breakouts usually show between six and eight weeks, and the full response takes around 12 weeks. Keep going through the early stage unless irritation is severe.
What are the side effects?
Local redness, peeling, dryness, tingling or burning, and sun sensitivity are common. Some people notice temporary light or dark patches. Stop and speak to a doctor if the skin blisters, swells or becomes crusted, or you develop an allergic rash.
Who should not use it?
Supatret is not for use in pregnancy or by anyone planning a pregnancy; ask your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Do not apply it to eczema, sunburn, wounds or broken skin. Benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid and other drying acne products should be used at a different time of day or only as your prescriber directs. Mention any medicines that increase sun sensitivity.
