Description
About Tretin 0.025% Cream
Tretin 0.025% Cream is a prescription cream containing tretinoin 0.025%, made by Hegde and Hegde Pharmaceutical LLP, used to treat acne vulgaris. It is a low-strength tretinoin cream in a 30 g tube, which is larger than many alternatives, and suits people who are new to retinoids or have dry or sensitive skin.
How does Tretin Cream work?
Tretinoin is a topical retinoid made from vitamin A. It changes the way skin cells in the follicle wall grow, so that they separate and shed rather than clog the pore. It clears existing blackheads and whiteheads and reduces the formation of new ones, which in turn means fewer inflamed spots. Applied regularly, it also leaves skin smoother and more even in texture.
Who is Tretin 0.025% suited to?
- People trying a retinoid for the first time.
- Dry, fair or sensitive skin that stings with gels.
- Mild to moderate acne with mainly blackheads and whiteheads.
- Those who need more cream, for example for the jawline, neck or upper back as well as the face, as prescribed.
How to apply Tretin 0.025% Cream
Use it once daily at night. Cleanse the skin with a mild wash and let it dry for 20–30 minutes. Place small dots of cream, a pea-sized amount in total, on the forehead, each cheek and the chin, then smooth it in lightly until it vanishes. Stay clear of the eyes, lips and the folds beside the nose. If your skin is sensitive, your doctor may suggest applying every other night for the first fortnight. Use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or more each morning.
How long does a 30 g tube last?
Used on the face alone at a pea-sized amount each night, a 30 g tube typically lasts two months or more. Treating a larger area such as the back uses it up faster. Using extra cream does not speed up results; it only increases dryness and redness.
How long does it take to work?
Early weeks can bring tightness, flaking and a small burst of spots. Most people see fewer breakouts by week six to eight, and results are reviewed at about 12 weeks.
What are the side effects?
Common effects are redness, peeling, dryness, mild burning and greater sensitivity to sunlight. Temporary lightening or darkening of the skin can occur. Stop and seek advice if severe irritation, blisters, crusting or swelling develop, or if you have signs of an allergic reaction.
Who should not use it?
Avoid Tretin if you are pregnant or intending to become pregnant, and speak to your doctor about breastfeeding. Do not use it on broken, sunburnt or eczema-affected skin. Space it apart from benzoyl peroxide and other peeling agents, avoid harsh cleansers, and do not wax treated areas.
Pack sizes and storage
