About Ventorlin Inhaler 100 mcg
Ventorlin Inhaler 100 mcg is a prescription pressurized metered-dose inhaler containing 100 micrograms of albuterol (salbutamol) per actuation, made by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd in India, used to relieve bronchospasm in asthma and COPD and to prevent exercise-induced symptoms. Each inhaler supplies 200 doses. It has the same active ingredient as GSK’s Ventolin sold in other countries, but Ventorlin is packaged for the Indian market and is not the US-labeled Ventolin HFA product.
How does Ventorlin work?
Albuterol stimulates beta-2 adrenergic receptors in bronchial muscle. The resulting relaxation widens the air passages, easing the whistling wheeze and tight chest of an asthma flare. Relief usually begins in under 5 minutes, is strongest in the first hour or so and fades by 4 to 6 hours.
How to use Ventorlin Inhaler
- Take off the mouthpiece cover and shake the inhaler for a few seconds.
- Before the first use, or if it has not been used for a while, fire test sprays into the air as the leaflet directs.
- Sit or stand upright and empty your lungs gently.
- Close your lips around the mouthpiece; as you begin to breathe in slowly, press the canister down firmly once.
- Keep inhaling to fill your lungs, remove the inhaler and hold your breath for as long as comfortable, up to 10 seconds.
- If a second puff is prescribed, wait at least 30 seconds before repeating.
With a spacer: fit the inhaler into the spacer, press once, then take one slow deep breath or 4 to 5 normal breaths through the mouthpiece. Give one puff at a time.

Exercise, cold air and travel
Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction tends to build during activity and peaks shortly after you stop, especially in cold, dry air. A pre-exercise dose plus a gradual warm-up helps many people stay active. Carry the inhaler in your carry-on bag when flying, keep it with you on hikes and sports trips, and never leave it in a hot car or freezing conditions, which can affect the spray. If exercise symptoms persist despite a pre-dose, your doctor may need to review your overall treatment.
What are the side effects?
Common effects are tremor, headache and a thumping heartbeat. Mouth and throat irritation and muscle cramps are less common. Rare problems include low potassium, a high or irregular heart rate, allergic reactions (rash, swelling of the face or throat, collapse) and paradoxical bronchospasm. Stop and seek urgent care for any severe or sudden reaction, and call 911 if an attack does not respond.
Who should be careful?
- People with heart disease, angina, arrhythmias or high blood pressure.
- Anyone with an overactive thyroid, diabetes or a seizure disorder.
- People taking non-selective beta-blockers, diuretics, digoxin, MAOIs or tricyclic antidepressants.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: inhaled albuterol is widely used when needed, but confirm with your doctor.
Relying on a reliever alone is not enough for most people with asthma; a daily inhaled steroid preventer is usually part of the plan.
Storage and pack sizes
Keep below 86°F (30°C) with the cap on, protected from frost and direct sunlight. Do not puncture or burn the canister. Clean the actuator weekly under warm water and air-dry. Ventorlin Inhaler is available as 1, 3 or 5 inhalers, from $6.
