Description
Same active ingredient (sildenafil) as Viagra®, the US brand. Bluemen 25 mg is an Indian brand, made and licensed in India.
About Bluemen 25 mg
Bluemen 25 mg is a prescription tablet containing sildenafil citrate 25 mg, made by RSM Enterprises, used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. It is the lowest strength in the Bluemen range. Sildenafil is the same active ingredient as Viagra, but Bluemen itself is an Indian brand and is not licensed in the UK, EU or US.
Who is the 25 mg strength for?
Most men begin sildenafil at 50 mg, yet prescribers often pick 25 mg when a gentler start is wiser. Typical reasons include:
- being over 65, when the body clears sildenafil more slowly;
- liver cirrhosis or severe kidney impairment;
- already taking an alpha-blocker such as doxazosin or tamsulosin for blood pressure or prostate symptoms;
- using a medicine that raises sildenafil levels, for example erythromycin or ketoconazole;
- headaches, flushing or dizziness at higher strengths.
How does Bluemen 25 mg work?
Sexual arousal releases nitric oxide in the penis, which raises a messenger molecule called cGMP. That messenger relaxes the smooth muscle in the blood vessel walls so the erectile tissue can fill. The enzyme PDE5 normally breaks cGMP down; sildenafil blocks it, making an erection easier to reach and keep. Without arousal, the tablet does nothing.
How to take Bluemen 25 mg
- Swallow one tablet with water about an hour before sex; anywhere between 30 minutes and 4 hours beforehand can work.
- An empty stomach or a light snack gives the quickest onset, while a fatty meal may delay it by roughly an hour.
- Never take more than a single dose within any 24-hour period.
- If 25 mg is not enough after several attempts, your doctor may move you to Bluemen 50 mg and, if needed, to Bluemen 100 mg, the labeled maximum.
How long does it last?
Sildenafil usually starts working within 30 to 60 minutes and helps for around four hours. In older men the effect can linger a little longer because blood levels fall more slowly.
Pack sizes
Bluemen 25 mg comes in strips of 10 tablets and is sold in packs of 90, 120, 150 and 300, from $63.
What are the side effects?
At 25 mg, unwanted effects tend to be milder than at the higher strengths. The most frequent are headache, a flushed face, indigestion, a stuffy nose and light-headedness; a few men notice a blue tint to their vision or extra sensitivity to light. Get urgent medical help for an erection lasting longer than four hours, sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes, sudden hearing loss, or chest pain during sex.
Who should not take it?
- Men using nitrates (GTN spray or tablets, isosorbide mononitrate or dinitrate) or poppers, or taking riociguat, because blood pressure can fall dangerously.
- Men with severe heart disease, a heart attack or stroke in the past six months, or very low blood pressure.
- Anyone who has lost sight from NAION (a type of optic nerve stroke) or who has retinitis pigmentosa.
Ritonavir-boosted HIV treatment needs specialist advice, as it raises sildenafil levels many times over.
Storage
Keep the tablets in their strip below 86°F (30°C), in a dry place that children cannot reach.
Frequently asked questions
Is 25 mg too weak to work?
Not necessarily. Many older men, and men on interacting medicines, respond well to it; it is simply the cautious end of the dose range.
Can I take two 25 mg tablets instead of one 50 mg?
Only if a doctor has actually prescribed 50 mg. Stick to the dose you were advised, once a day at most.
Where can I compare other sildenafil brands?
See the sildenafil category, or read Sildenafil vs Tadalafil if you are weighing up a longer-acting option.
General information only, not a personal recommendation. Bluemen 25 mg is a prescription medicine, so ask a doctor or pharmacist whether it suits you.
