Description

Same active ingredient (clindamycin) as Cleocin®, the US brand. Dalacin C 300 mg is an Indian brand, made and licensed in India.

About Dalacin C 300 mg

Dalacin C 300 mg capsules, made by Pfizer, contain clindamycin, an antibiotic from the lincosamide group. Clindamycin is used for serious bacterial infections, particularly those caused by staphylococci, streptococci and anaerobic bacteria, and it is a common alternative for people who are allergic to penicillin.

What it is used for

  • Skin and soft-tissue infections such as cellulitis and abscesses
  • Bone and joint infections
  • Dental and jaw infections
  • Some chest and pelvic infections

Oral clindamycin is not a routine treatment for acne. For acne, doctors prefer topical treatments; see our acne range.

How to take it

Your doctor sets the dose and length of treatment. Adults commonly take 150–300 mg every six hours, increasing to 450 mg every six hours for severe infections. Swallow each capsule whole with a full glass of water, sitting or standing upright, to avoid throat irritation. Space doses evenly through the day and complete the entire course even if you feel better. Stopping early can allow the infection to return.

Pack sizes

Capsules come in strips of 10 and are sold in packs of 30, 60 or 90, from $37. A lower strength, Dalacin C 150 mg, is also available.

Important warning: diarrhea

Clindamycin is more likely than many antibiotics to cause Clostridioides difficile infection, a serious bowel infection. Stop taking it and contact a doctor straight away if you develop severe, persistent or bloody diarrhea, stomach cramps or fever, even up to two months after finishing the course. Do not take anti-diarrhea medicines without advice.

Other side effects

Nausea, stomach pain, a metallic taste and mild rash can occur. Seek urgent help for a widespread rash with blistering or peeling, swelling of the face or throat, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Cautions

Tell your doctor about previous bowel problems such as colitis, liver or kidney disease, allergies, and all medicines you take, including muscle relaxants used during surgery. Antibiotics do not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

Storage

Keep the capsules in their blister strip at room temperature (under 30°C) and well away from children.
