Description
Same active ingredient (sildenafil) as Viagra®, the US brand. Penegra 100 mg is an Indian brand, made and licensed in India.
About Penegra 100 mg
Penegra 100 mg is a prescription tablet containing 100 mg of sildenafil citrate, made by Zydus Cadila (now Zydus Lifesciences), used for erectile dysfunction in men who need the full dose. It is the strongest tablet in the Penegra range and matches the maximum single dose in sildenafil labeling. Zydus markets Penegra in India; it has no license from UK, EU or US regulators.
When is 100 mg prescribed?
Doctors usually move to 100 mg after a man has tried 50 mg on several occasions, found it partly effective and had no troublesome side effects. It is generally avoided as a first dose, and it is not appropriate for men who need a reduced dose, such as those on alpha-blockers, ritonavir or other strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, or with liver impairment or severe kidney disease.
How does sildenafil 100 mg work?
Sildenafil inhibits PDE5 in the smooth muscle of the penis, prolonging the action of cGMP released during arousal. Blood flow into the erectile tissue increases and the erection is easier to maintain. At 100 mg, blood levels are higher, which may help men with more severe ED, including many with diabetes, but side effects also become more likely.
How to take Penegra 100 mg
- Swallow a single Penegra 100 mg tablet with water about an hour ahead of sex.
- For the quickest effect, take it on an empty stomach or after a light meal.
- Allow time for foreplay, because sildenafil needs arousal to work.
- Expect the effect to last around 4–5 hours.
- Do not take a second tablet in the same 24 hours, even if the first seems weak.
If 100 mg does not work
There is no higher labeled dose, so taking more is not the answer. A doctor can look for causes such as poorly controlled diabetes, low testosterone, depression or medicines that affect erections, and may suggest tadalafil, a different treatment or specialist referral. Lifestyle changes help too; see our tips for erectile dysfunction.
Who should not take it?
Do not take Penegra 100 mg with any nitrate or nitric oxide donor (GTN, isosorbide mononitrate or dinitrate, nicorandil), with amyl nitrite, or with riociguat. It is unsuitable for men with serious heart disease, a heart attack or stroke within six months, low blood pressure, severe liver impairment, retinitis pigmentosa or prior NAION. It must not be taken alongside other PDE5 inhibitors or any other sildenafil product.
What are the side effects?
At this dose headache is very common, and flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, dizziness and visual disturbances (a blue-green color tinge, blurred vision, light sensitivity) are common. Back pain and muscle aches can occur. Stop and seek urgent help for an erection lasting more than 4 hours, sudden vision or hearing loss, chest pain, fainting, or swelling of the lips or face.
Pack sizes
Penegra 100 mg comes in strips of 4 tablets, in packs of 60, 120, 180 or 240, from $70. Store in a dry place below 86°F (30°C).
