About Accufine 30 mg
Accufine 30 mg is a prescription soft capsule containing 30 mg of isotretinoin, made by Healing Pharma, India, used for severe acne that is nodular, cystic, scarring or has not improved with antibiotics and topical care. It lets a mid-range daily dose be taken as a single capsule, which many people find easier to remember once treatment is established.
How does it work?
As a retinoid, isotretinoin changes how sebaceous glands behave. They shrink and produce much less oil, skin cells inside the follicles stop clumping into blackheads and whiteheads, and inflammation subsides. Because the effect on the glands outlasts the course, many people stay clear or have only mild acne afterwards.
How to take Accufine 30 mg
- Take it with food, ideally a meal containing some fat, and swallow the capsule whole.
- Your dose is set between about 0.5 and 1 mg/kg of body weight each day.
- Stick to the same mealtime daily to make the routine easy.
- If you forget a capsule and the next dose is close, carry on with the next scheduled one instead of doubling up.
How long does treatment last?
Most courses run for 16–24 weeks. Some dermatologists aim for a cumulative total of around 120–150 mg per kg over the whole course, as reaching this level is associated with fewer relapses. A person weighing 60 kg would need roughly 7,200–9,000 mg in total; at 30 mg a day that takes about 34–43 weeks, so the daily dose, the length of treatment or both are adjusted to suit. Your specialist decides when you have had enough.
Sun, skin and lifestyle
- Apply SPF 30 or above every morning and avoid sunbeds, as burning happens faster.
- Use an emollient for the body and a thick balm for the lips.
- Keep alcohol to a minimum to reduce extra strain on the liver and blood fats.
- Postpone waxing, laser hair removal and skin resurfacing until six months after the course.
- Do not donate blood during treatment or within a month of your last capsule.
Pregnancy prevention
Isotretinoin can cause severe malformations in a developing baby. If there is any possibility of pregnancy, you must follow a pregnancy prevention program (the UK Pregnancy Prevention Program, or iPLEDGE in the US), using two methods of contraception from a month before the first dose until a month after the last. Pregnancy tests are needed before treatment, monthly while taking it and once the course is over. Isotretinoin should not be taken during breastfeeding.
What are the side effects?
Dryness of the lips, skin and eyes is very common, along with nosebleeds, muscle and joint aches, headache and sun sensitivity. Raised triglycerides or liver enzymes may show up on blood tests. Contact a doctor immediately about low mood, irritability, withdrawal from friends or suicidal thoughts. Seek emergency care for a severe headache with visual changes or vomiting, severe tummy pain, bloody diarrhea or a widespread blistering rash.
Who should not take Accufine 30 mg?
It must not be used in pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with severe liver impairment, excessively high blood lipids or excess vitamin A. Tetracycline antibiotics and vitamin A supplements are not to be taken at the same time. Let your prescriber know about any soya or peanut allergy, diabetes or history of depression.
