How Long Do Steroid Nasal Sprays Take to Work?

Many people start to notice some improvement within 12 hours, but the full effect can take several days to two weeks of regular use. For best results:

Use it every day, not just when symptoms flare.
If you have seasonal allergies, start 1–2 weeks before your usual pollen season begins.
Don’t give up after a day or two. Consistency is what makes it work.

How to Use a Nasal Spray Correctly

Good technique improves results and reduces side effects like nosebleeds.

Gently blow your nose to clear it.
Shake the bottle. If it is new or hasn’t been used for a while, prime it by spraying into the air until a fine mist appears.
Tilt your head slightly forward, looking at your toes rather than the ceiling.
Close one nostril and insert the nozzle just inside the other.
Aim the nozzle slightly outwards, towards the outer wall of the nostril and away from the center (septum). A simple trick: use your right hand for your left nostril and vice versa.
Spray while breathing in gently through the nose. Don’t sniff hard, or the medicine ends up in your throat.
Repeat on the other side, then wipe the nozzle clean.
